Mary Jo and Nancy give lectures for small and large groups. These programs are for weavers, knitters, and other fiber artists. Unless described otherwise, lectures are two to three hours in length. Small group: Accommodates under 30 people and combines lectures, slides, and hands-on activities. Large group: Accommodates groups over 30 people and uses a lecture and slide format with audience participation. Lectures (two to three hours): Great Gradual Gradations Discover the importance of gray scale keys. This information is then applied to color. Learn how to create movement and interest in your design through modulation and gradation. Focus is given to several techniques to achieve spectacular color blending. The lecture is a visual experience to help you improve your color sensitivity and design capabilities. Designing Stripes Jazz up your wardrobe with a new stripe or plaid. Students will learn how to create stripes using traditional and innovative techniques. The lecture focuses on how to achieve balance in these stripes for a pleasing design. Techniques to change the character of a stripe by subduing colors or emphasizing areas are explored. Fine Tuning Your Color Sensitivity This lecture features a visual approach to studying color. Participants will learn a series of exercises to develop creative thinking, color perception, and sensitivity. The final outcome is a foolproof way of picking colors for your next project. Mixed Fibers: Designing from Your Stash You wish to work on next season's wardrobe. Learn how to take what is at hand and work to an exciting finish. Tricks for choosing interesting color combinations and the effect of adding fuzzies, slipperies, and stickies are covered. Also shown and explained are the tests for hand and drape used by professionals. The lecture concludes with ideas for embellishing and finishing. Creative Closure Snap it up with an expressive finish. Learn how to make easy frogs, toggles, buttons, and braids that become an impressive coordinated accessory to your next project. Show your individuality by creating your own one-of-a-kind fasteners for clothing, bags, and anything else you can imagine.
